  • Can I write or highlight in my books?
  • Generally you can’t unless allowed by the book owner.
  • How do I return my books when I'm done with them?
  • It is very easy. Just get an envelope or box, place your book inside, print the return label from your Booku account, tape the label on the parcel, select the pickup date and the courier guy will come and pick the book up from your doorstep. When the book is received, Booku will update your account to show the book was returned and you'll receive a confirmation email.
  • How do I pay for my textbook rental?
  • Credit card or debit card payments are processed securely during the checkout procedure. All major credit cards and debit cards are accepted. No cash transaction is accepted at this point in time.
  • How much can I save?
  • Students and reference book readers can save up to 80% over new or used purchases.
  • How long will it take for my books to arrive?
  • It roughly depends on the shipping method you select. It typically takes 2 – 3 business days from the pick-up date selected by the book owner. Shipping times may vary based on weather, delivery routes, and other factors out of our control. If your book has not arrived by the expected arrival date, contact us immediately and we'll work closely with you on a quick resolution.
  • Will the books come directly from Booku?
  • Nope. The books will be shipped by independent book owners who have no business association with Booku. The book owners are merely using Booku’s platform to list and transact the books. However, we at Booku are always available for support to ensure you experience a smooth and safe transaction when you are using Booku.
  • Are the books the exact same as my nearest bookstore?
  • We can’t guarantee this. It entirely depends on the book owner. In some cases you may not even get the supplements such as CDs, access codes and additional study materials.
  • What kind of condition are the books in?
  • While we have a step to approve or reject books to ensure the quality of the books that are submitted for listing, we can’t guarantee that the books will be in top-notch condition when you receive them. Booku has features for renters to check and analyze the books before deciding to hit the rent button. You can also use the book owner’s ratings as your barometer.
  • Do the textbooks come with all supplemental materials?
  • This entirely depends on the book owner and Booku has no control over it. The book that you will receive is potentially used so we cannot guarantee that your book will include student access codes, CDs, workbook packages, etc. Supplemental materials are often used or damaged during the book's initial use, and cannot be obtained or re-used.
  • What if I need to keep my book longer than the rental period?
  • You need to take this up directly with the book owner. Booku allows you to request for rental extension. Access your account, select the book or books you wish to extend or re-rent, and you will be led to several options prior to checkout. However the decision to approve or reject the extension lies solely with the book owner.
  • What if I want to keep my book after I've rented it?
  • This entirely depends on the book owner. Booku does provide a feature to buy the book outright from the owner. The amount you pay to keep or own the book will be decided by the owner.
  • Do I need to have a Booku account?
  • Yes. For shipping and email notification purposes, you need to register. Registration is absolutely free and currently you can register using your Google or Facebook account.
  • Is there a membership fee or any other kind of fee?
  • Nope
  • Is there a loss/damage protection for my rented books?
  • Not at this moment. We may introduce a plan in the near future.
  • How will books arrive at my address?
  • Via any courier service provider such as PosLaju, SkyNet, GDEX, etc.
  • Will all of my books arrive in one package?
  • It depends. If they come directly from the same book owner then they will all arrive in one package; however, if you book from different book owners then they will arrive separately at different times.
  • Will I get my books on time?
  • It depends on various factors such as the timeliness of the book owner shipping the book and other conditions such as weather, delivery routes, and other factors which are out of our control.
  • What if my books don't show up?
  • We do our best to ensure we track your books and get them to you on time. Like any package delivery system, on very rare occasion, packages can be lost along the way. Please notify Booku if your books fail to show up. We will try to find the best solution for you.
  • Why is the rental price different than the last time I checked?
  • Rental prices are something that are set by the book owners and not by Booku, they are beyond our control and book owners have full autonomy to decide and change their rental prices as and when they like.
  • Can the book owner change the rental price after I have booked the book?
  • Nope, this is not allowed. The book owner must honor the booked price to the book renter.
  • I lost a book – what do I do?
  • Unfortunately you need to deal on lost books directly with the book owner. You will probably need to pay the difference of what you have already paid to rent the book and the book’s current market value.

For book owners
  • Should I wrap my books?
  • Yes it is highly recommended that you wrap your books to protect them from being damaged easily.
  • How do I ship my books when I received payment successful notification for an approved Renting Request?
  • It is very easy. Just get an envelope or box, place your book inside, print the shipment label from your Booku account, tape the label on the parcel, select the pickup date and the courier guy will come and pick the book up from your doorstep. When the book is received by the Book Renter, Booku will update your account to show the book was received and you'll receive a confirmation email.
  • How much can I make from my book rentals?
  • It depends on your published rental rates, the rental periods and the amount of books that you rent out. Booku will keep 15% of your total revenue and credit the balance directly to your bank account after deducting any transaction fees that banks impose.
  • What kind of books am I allowed to list?
  • You can list any kind of books except for pornographic or adult genres. Also take note that all the books that you list will not be automatically listed, they will go through a vetting process for approval for listed.
  • What do I do when the book that I attempt to list gets rejected?
  • You may try to list it after making the amendments according to the comments or feedback given by Booku’s admin. Please take note that you may not be able to list the book at all if it violates the permissible books policy.
  • How long will it take for my books to arrive?
  • It roughly depends on the shipping method the Book Renter selects. It typically takes 2 – 3 business days from the pick-up date selected by the Book Renter. Shipping times may vary based on weather, delivery routes, and other factors out of our control.   • How fast must I respond to a Renting Request?
  • You must respond within 24 hours from the time the Renting Request was made. Failing to do so the Renting Request will be automatically cancelled. Please take note that you may receive bad user ratings if you failed to respond promptly. If your listed book isn’t available or you don’t intend to rent to the Book Renter, be sure to decline the Renting Request promptly.
  • How fast must I ship the book upon receiving payment notification?
  • You must ship the book with 3 days after receiving the payment notification. Failing to do so may result in bad user ratings.
  • When will I receive my payments?
  • The payment cycle is set to be weekly. You must have more than MYR10 (Ringgit Malaysia Ten) to be eligible to receive the payment. You will receive the full balance from your account if you are eligible to receive payment for the week.
  • What if I the Book Renter wants to keep my book longer than the rental period?
  • The Book Renter will be charged for the number of extra days.
  • What if the Book Renter wants to keep my book after receiving it?
  • This entirely depends on you. Booku does provide a feature to sell the book outright to the Book Renter. The amount that the Book Renter has to pay to keep or own the book will be decided by you.
  • Do I need to have a Booku account?

  • Can I change the rental price after I approved the Renting Request?
  • Nope, you can’t change the rental price for the Renting Request that you have already approved or pending approval. You can only change the rental price for any of your books before before there is any rent request.
  • I received the book in a very bad condition. What do I do?
  • Booku is just a marketplace to facilitate Book Owners and Book Renters to exchange books for a fee. The exchange should be done at the respective parties risks. However, Booku may try to help to facilitate the resolution of dispute whilst no guarantee is given that the dispute will be resolved amicably. You are strongly advised to take pictures of the book upon receiving them and lodge an official complain to Booku at support@booku.rent and attach the pictures. You can also use the user rating feature to rate your experience with the Book Renter.
  • The Book Renter lost a book – what does she/he do?
  • This matter will be taken up by the Book Renter directly with the Book Owner. The Book Renter will probably need to pay the difference of what she/he has already paid to rent the book and the book’s current market value. However, Booku will not interfere in this settlement and it will be between Book Owner and Book Renter.
